A graduate of the National Music Academy of Ukraine and former intern soloist at the National Opera of Ukraine, Yuliya trained in the class of Professor Diana Petrynenko, before completing a postgraduate assistantship with Professor Oleksandr Dyachenko — whose students perform at La Scala, the Royal Ballet and Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera. She has appeared at European festivals including the Trentino Music Festival and Academia Belcanto in Graz.
A postgraduate researcher at the National Music Academy of Ukraine (Department of World Music) and teacher of operatic voice, she is a passionate champion of Ukrainian song — a commitment that earned her an invitation from the Ukrainian Institute in London. Creator of the Kyiv opera project Atmosphere of Christmas and member of the VoiceSaxPiano trio, she performs regularly with London-based pianist Olga Paliy, and serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Shpyg Foundation.

Shpyg & Paliy
A partnership built on shared heritage and borderless programmes.
Yuliya performs regularly with London-based Ukrainian pianist Olga Paliy — a partnership born of fate as much as artistry. Both grew up in Chernihiv and graduated from the same L. Revutsky Music College — Yuliya as a choral conductor, Olga as a pianist — before continuing at the National Music Academy of Ukraine in Kyiv, where their paths ran parallel without yet meeting. It was London that finally brought them together: when a pianist cancelled an hour before a charity concert for Ukraine, Olga arrived and brilliantly performed the entire programme — and a creative duo was born. They are united by shared roots and a natural affinity for programmes without borders, from Baroque and bel canto to Ukrainian song and Spanish zarzuela.

To have a full house of warm, enthusiastic supporters on a beautiful summer Sunday for Olga and Yuliya’s magnificent concert was something extremely special. To feel moved to tears, and to see people so touched by those two extraordinary young women — it quite took one’s breath away.
What an extraordinary pair of performers. There is such passion — and authority — between them, and the programme was very stirring and unexpectedly emotional. They gave their very souls that afternoon; we felt privileged to be present.
What a privilege to sit in our local church and hear such an eclectic choice of music delivered by amazingly talented young women. We loved every minute — a reminder of how very lucky we are. Their courage is deeply inspiring.
